Location matters!
Find a spot away from trees and clear a circle about 10 feet wide. Dig a shallow pit and circle it with rocks.
Gather three types of fuel: tinder (dry grass, small twigs), kindling (pencil-thick sticks), and fuel wood (wrist-thick logs).
Build a teepee with tinder in the middle, kindling around it, and larger wood on the outside. Light the center and let the fire build gradually.
Always have water nearby and never leave a fire unattended!
